Overleg:Alicante (stad)
Van Wikipedia
Hello! We've named the German article Alacant. It's the origin Catalan name of the city. The Spanish name was given by Franco to supress Catalan language. Habitants of the city call it Alacant and it's the first official name. Alicante is only the second name. We shouldn't call the city Alicante any more, because the name is a symbol of supression. We should use the real name Alacant. Best wishes, Hanno Meissner
Thank you for your comment, but its customary on Wikipedia NL to use the Dutch names for geographical topics. The Dutch name for that city is Alicante. Unless public opinion in Dutch-speaking countries states otherwise, we will continue to use that name.Fruggo 29 jul 2004 20:01 (CEST)
I think Alicante is not a "real" Dutch name for the city. You have adopted the Spanish name into your language because only this name was official after World War 2. In Germany many people still call the city Alicante but we try to make the origin Catalan names popular in the German speaking countries. It would be better, if you tried too. At least, you should note the Catalan name of the city in your article. Hanno Meissner
