Samurai Pizza Cats is een Japanse animatie-serie die in 1990 voor het eerst uitgezonden werd in Japan, onder de titel Kyatto Ninden Teyandee. In 1991 werd de serie overgebracht naar Amerika door Saban Entertainment, en werd de serie omgedoopt tot Samurai Pizza Cats. Hoewel ze daar de scripts wel hadden ontvangen van de Japanse makers, gooiden ze deze gewoonweg de prullenbak in, begonnen dus compleet opnieuw met bijna niks en maakten hun eigen versie ervan. Hierdoor werd de serie compleet anders dan het origineel. Compleet ander plot, compleet andere dialogen, noem maar op. En, in tegenstelling tot wat velen op het eerste gezicht zouden verwachten, werd de serie wereldwijd een grote hit en werd zelfs geaccepteerd door fans van de originele Japanse versie. Hier in Nederland werd de serie rond 2000 uitgezonden door Fox Kids, en in de mid-jaren '90 door RTL 4.
