The Meat Puppets is een Amerikaanse band afkomstig uit Phoenix, Arizona.
De bandleden zijn:
- Curt Matthew Kirkwood (geboren 10 januari 1959 in Wichita Falls, Texas): zanger en gitaar.
- Cris Renstrom Kirkwood (geboren 22 oktober 1960 in Amarillo, Texas): bassist en backing vocals
- Derrick Edwin Bostrom (geboren 23 juni 1960 in Phoenix, Arizona): drummer
De Meat Puppets zijn vooral bekend geworden door in het voorplan te spelen van Nirvana (band). Op de MTV unplugged cd van Nirvana zijn 3 nummers van The Meat Puppets te horen: "Plateau", "Oh me" en "Lake of fire". Hierop spelen Curt en Cris Kirkwood mee.
De muzikale stijl van The Meat Puppets is een vorm van gitaarrock die verder moeilijk te /karakteriseren valt. Invloeden van punk, hardrock en country zijn duidelijk aanwezig.
