Olav Gjærevoll

Olav Gjærevoll (1916-1994) was a Norwegian politician for the Labour Party. He was Minister of Social Affairs in 1963, Minister of Social Affairs 1963-1965, Minister of Agriculture and Prices 1971-1972, and the first Minister of Environmental Affairs in 1972. In local politics, he was mayor of Trondheim for two periods 1958-1963 and 1979-1981.
Gjærevoll was a professor of botany at the University of Trondheim from 1958 to 1986, and was a specialist in alpine plants.
