The London Array is an offshore wind farm that has been granted planning permission for the outer Thames Estuary. Sited seven miles off north Foreland on the Kent coast the first turbines are expected in 2008.[1]
It is to be constructed by a consortium called London Array Limited and when complete in 2010 will consist of 271 wind turbines, providing 1 GW of electricity production. The three partners are Shell WindEnergy Ltd, E.ON UK Renewables and CORE Ltd [1].
However, the £1.5bn project has met opposition and struggles to obtain planning permission for an onshore substation. [2]
