[edit] Link to article OMIM
I think there should be a link to the wikipedia article OMIM. I don't understand why it could be redundant. Many people never heard of it, especially the Average User. There are many other templates providing wikilinks explaining the resource, like these, so there is precedent.--Steven Fruitsmaak | Talk 11:13, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- Originally, OMIM was linked to Mendelian Inheritance in Man. However, many articles have multiple OMIM links (subforms/isoforms etc), and it was felt that this would lead to overlinking. I support your reactivation of the link. JFW | T@lk 14:26, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

- If it helps, we have another template, Template:OMIM2, which can help reduce overlinking when multiple consecutive links are required. --Arcadian 16:58, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dox update
- Old: "This template is good to use for the first OMIM citation in an article (or perhaps in a section), but is generally probably too long to use repeatedly; use the {{OMIM3}} template instead for later citations. And {{OMIM2}} can be used after {{OMIM}} to shorten a long list of OMIM citations."
- New: "This template is good to use for the first OMIM citation in an article (or perhaps in a section), but is generally probably too long to use repeatedly; use the {{OMIM3}} template instead for later citations. And {{OMIM2}} can be used after {{OMIM}} to shorten a long list of OMIM citations. Either can also be used in infoboxes to keep the text shorter. In infoboxes, the plainlinks variants {{OMIM4}} (variant of {{OMIM2}}) and {{OMIM5}} (variant of {{OMIM3}}), without external link icons, can alternatively be used, where the context already makes it clear that the links are external." — SMcCandlish [talk] [contrib] ツ 03:34, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Dox transclude
Documentation needs to be moved to an external file, so that dox updates do not require editprotecteds any longer. A standardized way of doing this is shown at Template:Resolved. — SMcCandlish [talk] [contrib] ツ 03:34, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
