Talk:Oneness University
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wikipedia needs to stay clear out of cult/religious propaganda and describe cult/religious/new age movements from a scientific standpoint.
Bhagawan/Kalki/Avatar poses as a God and saviour and is clearly a cult leader. Citing Christian Optiz as a scientist is like refering to Von Däniken as a archeologist or David Icke as a sociologist. The "deeksha" phenomenon is a phenomenon of sorts, a bluff product being spread at a remarkable speed. The amazing thing being the kind of Multi Level Marketing scheme behind it making people pay as much as 5000$ for a course to get axess to the brand deekcha, ie the cults license to use their product. The license can be revoked should the believer fall from grace.
Cults needs to be examined from an objektive standpoint to keep Wikipedias credibility-level high. until someone has the time to write a investigating article about it let it stay short and objective and free of cult advertisements.
until the cult facts can be axessed from the earlier Wikipedia article or [www.guruphiliac.com]

How is calling a movement "a cult" or "bluff" objective? That is nothing but your personal opinion. Let the movement present itself, and people can decide for themselves if it is "destructive" or not. I'm sure there are people who have different opinions about toothpaste, meditation, christianity, the bible etc, whether it's good or bad/true or false, but this is a dictionary, not a discussion board. If anything, what you have written about the Oneness University can be kept here, but then also people have the right to see the movement's presentation also, and then decide for themselves what is true or not, or good or bad. I think the previous article was very one-sided.
There, I have changed the article. It is not saying "this is the best thing in the world, everyone must come here or join this". NO! It is a presentation of the movement as it is (very factual), and then people are free to have any opinion about it, whether for or against. However, a dictionary is not the place for such opinions or discussions. I have kept it very factual and objective, with links to offical websites, not articles by journalists or other personal opinions.
Now it is neither for nor against, it is a presentation of the movement, and people are free to base their own opinions about it. (Maybe I will ask someone from wikipedia to see what they think of this. I do not want it to be neither pro nor anti, but fair and somewhat objective. Then people's experiences and opinions will always be subjective, such it is with all things, and if an encyclopedia was based on such subjectivity, it would be very confusing.)

[edit] Copy-vio
This is copied from the Oneness University website. As such it's definately POV. Maybe a reversion to the previous version might help? Inner Earth 17:21, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
Inner Earth: The www.onenessmovement.org website where the information is from, is not copyright protected. I have also got permission from the webmaster and people behind the website to use that information on wikipedia. However, I do not know how valid it would be if I just copied that email, as I might as well could've written it myself (though I haven't, of course). Anyway, the oneness movement website and the material is not copyright protected, so it is ok to use in either case.
About the previous article written about Oneness University, I thought it was very biased. When I search for some information on wikipedia (a person, foundation, company etc.), I do not expect to find an article discrediting the whole thing/person, and with links to mainly negative press and articles. That is not encyclopedia material in my opinion. I also do not expect to find an article praising something. I think what is written now is fairly objective. So, if I would not know what Oneness University is, I could get the information "Ok, so they offer spiritual courses and is based in India. They say their aim is to give people a state of oneness". And then I can find more information on official or main websites. If I think that is bad or good, is up to me, that I do not think is the encyclopedia's role, to convince others which side to choose. For example, if I searched about a political party, I would want information about how they present themselves, what their views are, what they are about. Not what people who are for or against them think. Then of course, someone who belongs to another political party would write bad stuff, and someone who belongs to that party would only write good stuff (and maybe exaggerate).
So I think what is written here now, is much more fair. I do not think it is biased with somebody's opinions, but is just a presentation of the movement. Maybe some slight changes can be made, as I copied it straight from the website I have not written it myself.

[edit] Article needs a lot of work
The article presently reads like an advertisement -- not an encyclopedia article. It probably needs a nearly-complete rewrite. --Improv 18:33, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Objectivity
Labeling the organisation isn't going to help. What the article needs are reliable sources, and NPOV content. Also would be a good idea to find out the real name of the founder, (not on his article) because calling him Bhagavan (God) is just biased. Sfacets 02:16, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] advertising a cult
Oneness University is a big cult, and Bhagavan and his wife take themselves as God. To have access to the source of this comment, please go to:
http://www.freewebs.com/dikshainfo/isbhagavanthelord.htm
where you can read the words of "the Lord Kalki Bhagavan" The information given is not correct, since the prices of the 21 days process is 5.650, plus an introductory course, and continuos 10 days deepening process, that they advise you to follow in order to achieve what you can't obviously achieve after having done the first process.... each of the deepening courses cost another big amount of money. Participants are pushed to spread the deeksha in the world and to send as many people as possible to the Oneness University, in order to safe mankind. Very Important People, are mostly loved, and for them, the process are individual, and free, despite all the money that these people have. For indians is another thing, they have to reclute a certain amount of people in order to go to the next level, that are very different than those for foreigners. If they don't reclute the minimum of people, they can't attain enlightenment. Advertising this cult in wikipedia, is really a shame.
