I've heard that before receiving the Matrix in the Chamber of the Ancients, Prime's original name was Optronix and that he was a file clerk. I've no confirmation of this.. I've also heard that the authors intentionally left his original name largely unspoken. -- Sy 17:30, 2 Jan 2005 (UTC)

[edit] reply

in the cartoon his orginal name was orion pax(war dawn) and the areial bots took him to triple a to be rebuilt as optimus prime

  • waite a sec, weren't the Areialbots created in the late 1980's by the Autobots? If so, how could they have been with Op Millions of years ago? Mightberight/wrong 0:28, 14 November 2005 (UTC)
    • As the article notes, they had been sent back in time from the 80's.
Where are you getting "war dawn" from? "Orion" was the Roman hunter god, and "pax" is Latin for peace. "war dawn" would be something like Bellum Aurora in Latin. Curis 11:44, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
    • "War Dawn" is the name of the episode in which Orion Pax is rebuilt into Optimus Prime. --(unregistered user) 21:43, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, I misread the comment. Curis 18:01, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] G1 section

I was just flipping through pages and came across this article. Frankly, the opening paragraph under the G1 heading is way over-the-top and completely inconsistent with an encyclopedia. It also sounds very much like something copied from another source (ie. the toy manufacturer). Someone familiar with this toy should try for a re-write. Just a suggestion. Matt Deres 21:59, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

Ironically, the paragraph was a re-written version of Marvel's original "Universe" entry for Prime, which effectively was an encyclopedia for the subject matter. I've had a bash at re-jigging it, though. - Chris McFeely, 17 Jan
This stuff: "Optimus Prime is the leader of the heroic Autobots. Had he been born a human, he could have been a doctor, a mechanic, a scientist, or a warrior - but on Cybertron, Prime puts all his talent to use to improve the world around him. Immensely kind and compassionate, Prime has dedicated himself to the protection of all life, particularly the inhabitants of Earth, and will battle his foes with unyielding resolve to uphold this belief." reads as plaguarism to me, actually. Blue Spider

I know in one of the episodes of Gen. 1 that Optimus was severely injured in a battle, I believe the one-on-one dual with Megatron(with all Decepticons abilities) where the loser's team had to leave Earth. At the conclusion of the episode, another truck Transformer offers to pull Optimus's trailer for him since he is so weak. Does anyone know which Transformer that was, and if the toy could pull the trailor as well? Chris Cobb 08 October 2006

The episode was Heavy Metal War, and the Autobot who helped was Huffer. His toy cannot pull Prime's trailer, as it has no hitch (it can sit on Huffer's legs, but it doesn't collect). Ultra Magnus's toy CAN pull Optimus's Trailer, and vice-versa, since they are the came cab mold. user:mathewignash

[edit] Difficult to maintain NPOV

At least in terms of the G1 incarnation, with which I am primarily familiar, I'm actually finding it difficult not to write in openly positive terms. I've always had an enormous amount of admiration for Prime as a character, I'll admit. Although I initially thought it a little strange when I found out someone had had himself legally named after the character, if there is any such character for whom that is appropriate, I think Prime would definitely be it.

[edit] Moving the other Optimus Primes off page

I moved RiD Optimus Prime to a seperate page since this page is getting rather large. Should perhaps all the different series primes each have a smaller page?

Mathewignash - 2-16-06

I also made a page for Armada/Energon Optimus Prime.

[edit] fan speculation

The following was included in the article by an anonymous editor, and some of it may be useful so I am moving it here:

they never explained how the Decepticons managed to pull of regaining complete control of cybertron in the 19-20 years time differance which occured between the end of generation 1 season 2 and the time of the movie. another thing they also never explained was the ultimate fate of Alita who was Optimus primes lover and companion in life. i believe that by examining the dreamwave transformer comic continuity that one can easily find a series of events which lead to the Autobots losing their homeworld of Cybertron to the enemy.
in transformers the war within age of wrath megatron had multiple aerial extermination squadrons that numbered a million strong.
had dreamwave not gone bankrupt he would likley have had 2-3 thousand of them left after the age of wrath story line concluded and the next storyline after that which would have dealt with the quintesons gaining revenge in the next storyline. the surviving squadrons would be kept in cold storage to be used for a later time.
in transformers war and peace it was revealed that Shockwave had created the Energon Transfer Unit which would channel energy directly from Cybertrons energon core directly into a transformer equiped with it keeping the individual in a perpetual fully energised state.
issue 10 hinted at megatron having a plan to use earth as a bargaining chip to regain cybertron. he also posessed the titan like might of predaking, bruticus, menasor, and devastator.
issue 11 had it been released would have brought Alita and her team into the comic with her dying in issue 12 since the cover art to issue 12 showed an emotional and heartbroken prime cradling her lifeless body in his arms. it has been said over the years that if optimus had any true weakness it would be his compassion. primes character had changed from the honor bound warrior of the cdartoon to the tragic avenging hero he would be in the movie. something had caused him to change. something so big in such a way that prime had unwillingly played a role in the cons counqering cybertron.
she was his greatest strength in life. in the end she would be his ultimate weakness
it is my theory that megatron would have repaired and reprogrammed the combaticons to be loyal only to him and ordered them to break the constructicons out of their area 51 prison. he would repair them and improve on them programming wise so that they would be somewhat more intelligent in their merged form of devastator. he would use the titan like might of the 4 to hold north, central and south america and great brittain hostage. with prime reeling from the death of his beloved alita and with so many countless millions of innocent lives hanging in the balance. optimus would have no choice but to give in to his demands for a complete cease fire and total withdrawel of all autobot forces from cybertron.
with megatron and his decepticons, shockwave and his legions, and megatrons remaining aerial extermination squeadrons equiped with energon transfer units the autobots would make a final stand at iacon and it would be a slaughter like none other. even magnus and his fellow wreckers would be hard pressed to hold their ground,
the death of his beloved alita would trigger this series of events in which the decepticons used the autobots very beliefs against them.

Nothing but a work of fanfiction, sorry, no real use for it on Wikipedia. Everyone likes to fill in the holes left by creators, a common practice of Star Trek was to wonder about the days of Enterprise before the show was even concieved. Once the events are actually show, it is often not what people assumed was going to happen. The person who wrote this thought that they had it down, and could pinpoint the events of Dreamwave to specific articles, but the truth is we may never know what was going to happen. It's nice that he decided to contribute to the article, but needs to learn that fan fiction has little place in Wikipedia. If it did, we would have massive articles flooded with theories and assumptions.--Orion Minor 00:16, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A few little things

Good edits, but occasiionally a little over-specific - there's no need to go into the whole Ark/Nemesis thing on this page, that's for their own entries, and there's no need to mention Shockwave's landing in the Savage Land, as that has nothing to do with Prime. Also, "Teletraan I" is the correct spelling of the name, and Alpha Trion was going by that name by the time of "War Dawn," as per the ep's script. -- Chris McFeely 6th March 2006

[edit] Magnus/Dion

There's strong evidence Dion would later become Ultra Magnus. Hence his similar design to Optimus Prime as well as Prime's referral to him as old friend right before he passes in Transformers The Movie.

What is this "strong evidence"? There's the two points listed, which don't add up to much, in my opinion, but I'm not aware of any other evidence. Of course, there's fanfic and fan speculation, but that's not evidence is it? Optimus Sledge 19:52, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

It's mainly that fanwank "revelation" in the second Dreamwave arc that Magnus was Dion, as well as being Prime's brother. I stopped reading at that point... --SMegatron 16:00, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Victory/Zone information

Why is some info on these series "unnecessary"? I added it to connect the series and briefly show what was going on in the meantime, since they can be connected with Ginrai before and Zone Energy after. This seems better than just noting Zone Energy out of the blue while citing an unacknowledged & unaccounted-for part of the G1 continuity as a reference. Nautilator 19 Mar 06

They are worth slight, one-sentence mentions in other sections, if it all. They certainly do not deserve their own headers, as they do no feature Prime at all, and this is his article. Ginrai's explicit connection to Prime warrants his small paragaraph, but the Victory section adds nothing about Prime - if readers want to learn more about Ginrai's exploits, they can go his own article. A line's been added to the Battlestars section to explain that Zone Energy coes from "Zone," and that's all that needs to be said - a summary of Zone has no bearing on Prime. - Chris McFeely 19th March 2006
There is a very extensive article about Ginrai, and it links back and forth with Optimus Prime. Maybe there should be an article about Zone Energy, and such, seperately, and more links. user:Mathewignash - Mar-21-06

[edit] Scale and Alternators

While one can provide a comparative statistic based on the size of the Diaclone drivers and the actual scale of the toys (although 1:32 for the original Prime toy does not sound right to me), this doesn't make sense for Masterpiece Prime - he is not part of the Alternators line, so it's scale and figures have absolutely no bearing on anything regarding him. They're separate things, with separate scales, and one can't be used to prove the other. The Masterpiece figure is made to roughly a 1:36 scale, providing a height of about 36 feet. - Chris McFeely, 28th May 2006

Where do you get the information that the Masterpieces are at 1:36 scale and not 1:24? (user:mathewignash)
I recall a topic about it on ATT sometime back. ItsWalky! (or David Willis, or whatever name he was using at the time) knocked together a comparative chart. In truck mode, Prime's simply not big enough to be in the same 1:24 scale with the Alternator vehicle modes (and Starscream's clearly operating on some completely different scale, as well). - Chris McFeely 28th May 2006
I can look on the internet and find dozens of articles from people who seem to think he's about 1:24 scale, so I think it's worth at least mentioning this is one of his possible heights, and it doeslay between the high and low end of his possible heights based on the Diaclone toy. (user:mathewignash)
I grant you it's harder to be precise on scale with MP Prime since he's not based on an actual vehicle, but the point remains - he is simply too small to be in 1:24 scale. Just sit the toy next to an Alternator in vehicle mode - too small to be in scale with those cars. Trucks are BIG things! Here's an article by the crazy-detail-oriented Dave Van Domelen, who deals in actual comparative measurements and puts the scale at around 1:30 (1:36, it seems, would indeed be a bit on the big side). - Chris McFeely 28th May 2006

[edit] Disambiguation

As per Wikipedia:Disambiguation, the link to Optimus Prime (person) at the top of this page is not necessary (no risk of confusion here) regardless of the outcome of its bid for deletion. The page is already linked where it belongs, in the trivia section. radimvice 01:03, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orion in Dreamwave?

"Optimus Prime started life as Optronix (Orion to his friends)". I can't find anything about him being nicknamed "Orion" in my War Within paperbacks. Is this just fan speculation to make it match up with the G1 animated series continuity? user:Curis

I can't find the source, but I recall reading that the War Within writer had said this. Anyone know the source? user:mathewignash
It comes from the "Hardwired" paperback novel. I think, as Mathew said, that Simon Furman may also have said something along the lines before said book came out. Chris McFeely 18:31, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Toy Photos

Just added a pic of my G1 reissue Prime, I was surprised there weren't some already. While we don't need photos of every Prime, I think G1 and 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime are definitely essential to the page, maybe with a new section for 20th Anniversary Prime? Curis 11:45, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] links

Just been reading the page and wondered if it was sencible to have the internal links for 'transformers' all pointing to the toy page rather than the series or a diambiguation page. Nate1481 01:27am 31 July 2006 (GMT)

[edit] size

As per tradition, he transforms into a truck cab, although in order to yield the tallest possible robot mode (32'), Prime now transforms into a long-nosed Peterbilt cab (akin to his Laser Rod incarnation), rather than a flat-nose design like his original Generation 1 body, which would have resulted in a height of only 20-25'.[1]

This is false information. THese are claims from Nelson who has repeatedly changed the motives for these changes. We know from the Masterpiece Prime toy that even a tiny flat nose cab could potentially tower over most of the autobots - it should be noted that MP OP's vehicle mode is smaller than it shold be. There are also some cabovers that are similiar in mass to the Peterbilt - kenworth has made some in the past.

[edit] Zombie

Did anybody else notice on the 20th Anniversary DVD, in The Death of Optimus Prime featurette, that it was mentioned that the original post-movie plans were to bring back Optimus as a zombie in the series and then the Autobots would have to kill him again, but the plans were scrapped because of the massive outcry about Optimus dieing in the movie? I would add that myself but I don't know if he was serious or not. Does anybody have any more information on this? ---SilentRAGE! 14:36, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Well wasn't he essentially a Zombie in that one ep where the Quintesson's try and use him to lead the Autobots into a trap, and then he sacrifices himself again? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 129.22.53.86 (talk) 08:07, 1 March 2007 (UTC).
I don't have a clue what you're talking about. ---SilentRAGE! 01:35, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
This happened in the end of season 3 of the TV show, and it's mentioned in the article. To quote: "Prime's body was entombed in a massive deep-space mausoleum with the many other fallen Autobots, but his corpse was desecrated by the Quintessons in 2006, when they reanimated it as part of an attempt to destroy the Autobots by using Prime to lure their space fleet into a trap. However, the Matrix was able to purify Prime of the Quintesson influence, and he ordered the other Autobots clear while he piloted his flagship into the Quintessons' detonator, triggering the explosion of a nearby sun." user:mathewignash

[edit] Optimus Prime Death/ Duke's death edit

In an Interview with Buzz Dixon, one of the writers for Gi Joe it was mentioned that the response to the death of Optimus Prime in the movie caused them to edit out Duke's death in the GI Joe movie, should this be added to the Optimus Prime page?

I think its already on the G.I Joe movie page, as well as Hawk's and the Transformer Movie. However, it could be noted in the trivia section, so long as it doesn't replicate the Controversy section from the Moviepage.SMegatron 13:16, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
