[edit] Teachings
The Zen teachings of this school are varied. Each Dharma Successor in the school may apply diverse practice approaches and determine the structure of any organization that s/he may develop to facilitate practice. Teachers are committed to the openness and fluidity of practice, wherein the wisdom of the absolute may be manifested in/as our life. An important function of this school is the ongoing examination and development of effective teaching approaches to insure comprehensive practice in all aspects of living.
Ordinary Mind Zen School Centers may be either clerical or lay organizations; often they do not have many of the external forms of traditional Zen centers. At some centers members wear rakusu, while at others they do not. Typically, the centers have Zen-styled services that are performed daily.
A chant that is recited at each center is:
Caught in the self centered dream, only suffering. Holding to self-centered thoughts, exactly the dream. Each moment, life as it is, the only teacher. Being just this moment, compassion's way.
