Orly Castel-Bloom

Orly Castel-Bloom (born 1960) is an Israeli author
Born in Tel Aviv, she studied film at Ben Tzvi in Ramat Gan, Israel. She and ex-husband Gadi Bloom have two kids.
Her first collection of short stories, "Not far away from city center", was published at 1985. Edited by Haim Pesach. Castel Bloom has published 11 books so far, including collections of short fiction and novels.
Her 1992 novel Dolly City, has been included in UNESCO's Collection of Representative Works, and in 1999 she was named one of the 50 most influential women in Israel. "Dolly City" now performs as a play in Tel Aviv.
In "Free Radicals", Castel Bloom began abandoning the first person writing style in her books. In "Human Parts" (2001) she was the first Israeli novelist to deal with the new raging war. Her book of collected best stories, "One doesn't argue with rice", was published in 2003.
Castel Bloom has won the Prime Minister's award twice, the Tel Aviv award for fiction and was nominated for the Sappir award.
