[edit] School uniforms
Overton students, like all MCS students, are required to wear school uniforms. [1]
Students may wear oxford shirts, polo shirts, turtlenecks, and blouses with "Peter Pan" collars. All shirts must be white. Sweatshirts must be white, black, navy blue, tan or any other colors approved by the individual campus.
Trousers, shorts, skirts, and jumpers must be black, tan, or navy blue. Denim clothing is not allowed.
[edit] History
The original mascot for Overton was the Rebel. It was changed in 1992, the first year W. W. Herenton served as the first African American Mayor of Memphis, Tennessee. The Rebel supposedly was seen as an icon of the Confederate States of America, and, thus, racially non-ambiguous.
[edit] Controversy
Overton gained some small amount of noteriety for housing a glory hole in one of its bathrooms for roughly a week before it was covered over and officially disavowed by the school board. The students who admitted to using it, two females and six males, were expelled. No official news was ever recorded due to the identity of one of the students, rumored to be linked to King Willie
