I admit I am a bit lost - what wars does the text in the George Farquhar version refer to when mentioning "Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain"? - The song originated during the War of the Spanish Succession, during which British forces fought both in Spain and Portugal and in Flanders (under the Duke of Marlborough). The line "King George commands and we obey" was orginally "Queen Anne commands and we obey. Martin McCann 19:04, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
