[edit] Copyright
This is a copyrighted image that has been released by a company or organization to promote their work or product in the media, such as advertising material or a promotional photo in a press kit.
The copyright for it is most likely owned by the company who created the promotional item or the artist who produced the item in question; you must provide evidence of such ownership. Lack of such evidence is grounds for deletion.
It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of promotional material
- to illustrate the work or product being discussed;
- where the image is unrepeatable, i.e. a free image could not be created to replace it;
- on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation,
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement. See Copyrights for more information.
To the uploader: please add a detailed fair use rationale for each use, as described on Wikipedia:Image description page, as well as the source of the work and copyright information.
© 1996-2007 Death Row Records, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
- The image above, as well as others from the specific photoshoot, is owned by Suge Knight, CEO of Death Row Records, and was released circa 1996 to numerous publications (including Vibe, New York Times, and The New Yorker), websites, and media outlets as a promotional press kit intended for widespread showcase of Suge Knight, Tupac Shakur, And Snoop Doggy Dogg, and as a representation of Death Row Records artists and celebrity personalities. As such it qualifies as a promotional copyright.
[edit] Fair use in Tupac Shakur
This image, Pacsnoopsuge.jpg, is being linked here; though the picture is subject to copyright I (Mysekurity) feel it is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because:
- No free or suitable alternative has been located, nor can one be created as the subject of interest, Tupac Shakur, is no longer living.
- It furthers the goals of providing verifiable information concerning subjects discussed in the text, in that it visibly demonstrates the subjects and their relationship.
- It in no way infringes on or assists in the illegal reproduction or distribution of the content of the event, goods or services being advertised.
- It does not limit the copyright owner's rights to sell the event, goods or services in any way.
- The image is of small size and inferior quality/resolution; any subsequent copies made from this image would be of useless quality.
- The image is available elsewhere on the Internet.
- The image is being used strictly for informational and/or educational purposes.
The previous version(s) of this image are copyrighted and were used under a claim of fair use. In accordance with the Wikipedia fair use policy, a smaller or lower quality version, or a freely-licensed replacement, has been uploaded in their place.
