Paipix is project developed from the Kanotix and Knoppix distributions, which themselves are "live" optic media containing a Debian-based Linux distribution. Paipix is a compilation of Open Source Software intended to be used in any environment, but particularly inclined to include Science and Technology software applications. It was created and is maintained by António Amorim of the Physics Department of the Faculty of Sciences of the Lisbon University in Portugal.
Previous releases of Paipix included CD-ROM releases with a slimmed-down selection of software. The current official release is 5.00 dates from March 2006, and is available as a 1.8GByte DVD-ROM ISO image for i386 and AMD64 architectures. The official selection of languages includes localizations for Portuguese, Brasilian Portuguese, English, German, Spanish, French and Italian.
