Parabellum
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The word Parabellum is a word coined by German arms maker Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken and is derived from the Latin saying si vis pacem, para bellum, meaning If you want peace, Prepare for war. The term has been used in the naming of a number of cartridges:
- 9 mm Luger Parabellum, the firearms cartridge adopted by NATO as the 9 x 19 mm
- 7.65 mm Luger Parabellum, or .30 Luger, from which the 9 x 19 mm cartridge was developed
The term may be used to refer to one of these cartridges, or a firearm chambered for one of those cartridges. Since the 9 mm version is one of the most widespread cartridges in use, the phrase a Parabellum most likely refers to a 9 x 19 mm cartridge or firearm.
Parabellum may also refer to:
- Parabellum (band), the French rock group
- Parabellum (computer game) an upcoming FPS game
