Parc and Dare Hall
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Parc and Dare Hall is a large entertainment venue in the village of Treorchy, in the Rhondda Fawr Valley of South Wales.
[edit] History
The Parc and Dare Hall began as the Parc and Dare Workingman's Social Club in the late nineteenth century. It was a place where the workers of the Parc colliery and the Dare colliery could meet outside work and socialise. It featured a bar and a library, which was used by many to read up on Marx and his theories of socialism in the early twentieth century. Since the starting of the Workingman's club, the men saved a little of their own wages every week until finally in the early twentieth century work began on the Parc and Dare Hall. In 1913 it was completed and still stands as the tallest building in Treorchy. The new addition was used for shows and plays, and that tradition has carried through to the modern day. It is now used for cinema, theatre and pantomime.
