Parklawn

Just south of the Sunnylea area. Its boundaries are roughly Royal York Road to the West, the Humber River to the East, and The Queensway to the south, and Bloor to the north. Halfway between The Queensway and Bloor, Parklawn ends, and the area changes abruptly, apartment buildings giving way to older high-end homes similar to those found in the South Kingsway.
Mainly comprised of 1950's era low rise apartment buildings and an old turn-of-the century market garden community that was absorbed by the city as it grew, the neighborhood remains very much as it was half a century ago. Being difficult to access, with no major arteries going in or out, there is little traffic, and the only amenities in the area are in the Stonegate Plaza, which include delis, dollar stores, a pharmacy, a laundromat, and a Valu-Mart.
The southeast portion of the neighborhood is relatively low-rent, also low-crime, with a high population of European immigrants. Despite being situated adjacent the picturesque Humber Park system, as well as several very wealthy neighborhoods, the area has probably been kept from becoming economically significant by the nearby water filtration plant, which does cause an unpleasant odor to linger in the air during the warmer months.
