The Paseo Bridge is a suspension bridge over the Missouri River in Kansas City, Missouri. It carries Interstates 29 and 35 and U.S. Route 71 over the bridge. It was built in 1954[1] and was rehabilitated in 1984 and 2005. According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the bridge handles 95,000 vehicles a day, [2] making it the most used bridge in Kansas City. The Paseo Bridge serves as the main connection between Kansas City and the Northland (the area of Kansas City north of the Missouri River).
MoDOT is in the planning process of devising a six- to eight-lane crossing for the interstate, either by building a duplicate bridge to house one direction of traffic or a new bridge or bridges. The $245 million project includes $50 million in funding procured by Senator Kit Bond in the 2005 Transportation Bill. Project plans include significant updates to sections of the freeway and nearby interchanges beyond the bridge itself.
