Patrick J. Que Smith

Born in North Carolina and raised in Anniston, Alabama, he has earned a Grammy for his songwriting work on the Usher's hit single, Yeah!.
Smith attended a community college and later transferred to Auburn University where he maintained a 3.87 GPA. Originally wanting to be an attorney, Smith changed career paths, and decided to pursue music in Atlanta. He formed a group called Melange and began making themselves known in and around Atlanta. He began writing songs to impress a girl he met named Erika Nuri, because she herself was a songwriter. Smith started to write more and hone his skills, that even after his group disbanded, producer Dallas Austin encouraged him to continue writing.
J. Que Smith is enjoying success as a songwriter and producer. He’s penned tunes not only for Usher and Fantasia but also for Avant, Jagged Edge, Chris Brown and Marques Houston and is part of a go-to collective of writers and producers known as The Clutch. In addition to his three Grammy nods, he has received four BET nominations and three BMI awards.
