From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Patties are a northern food, from the North-East of England, they are also sold in Scotland. They are thought to have originated in Kingston upon Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England where they are readily available.
The original pattie is a mix of mashed potato and sage blended together and made into a disc or square shape, then covered in batter and fried, much like a fish cake.
There are many different kinds of Pattie, but Meat Pattie (Corned Beef) and Cheese Pattie (Cheese and Onion) are the most common varieties.
Shown above is a rectangular pattie. Patties can be of various shapes but usually round or rectangular. The pattie in many instances replaces fish and is ordered with chips.
