- 1905 - 1907 : Student at the famous École Spéciale Militaire de Saint-Cyr (prom "la Dernière du vieux Bahut")

- 1914 : Poilu who participed to the battle of Neufchâteau in Belgium, on August 22, he has been made prisonner

- June 18 : in Djibouti, in his "General Order nb 4", he denounced the french armistice et annonced his intention to continue the war with the British Empire
- August 2 : he left Djibouti et went to England
- October 31 : arrived in England and is stripped of his French nationality by the Vichy regime

- Nominated Major General, commandant in chief of the Free French Forces in Sudan and Eritrea ; he worked nevertheless under the suprem command of Marshal Wavell.
- He created the First French light devision (in French "1ère Division légère française libre" or "1ère DLFL")
