Paul Simpson (born 26 July 1966) is the current manager of Football League Championship team Preston North End, having been named as the successor to the departing Billy Davies on June 16 2006.
Simpson managed Carlisle United football club to the Football League Two Championship in the 2005/2006 season, a second successive promotion following Carlisle's promotion from the Nationwide Conference in 2004/2005.
Simpson had playing spells at Manchester City, Oxford United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Derby County (where he captained the team to promotion to the Premiership, plus loan spells at Sheffield United and Walsall, then Blackpool and Rochdale (where he was their player-manager from May 2002), until finally hanging his boots up with a cameo appearance for Carlisle United against Stockport County on May 6, 2005. In addition Simpson represented England at under 21 level, and also was once in The Guinness Book of Records with the number of goals scored in a season during his Junior football days.
