Pauline Reade (murder victim)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pauline Reade (born 18 February 1947, died 12 July 1963) was a British murder victim.
She was murdered on 12 July 1963 by Ian Brady, the boyfriend of her neighbour Myra Hindley. Hindley had lured Pauline onto Saddleworth Moor to "help find a glove", but while they were "searching" the moors, Brady pounced upon Pauline and raped her. He then smashed her head in with a skull and buried her dead body on the moors. Pauline, 16, was the first victim in a string of five murders which soon became known as the Moors Murders.
Pauline's disappearence remained a mystery until November 1986, when Brady and Hindley (imprisoned for life since 1966 for three other murders) confessed to killing Pauline as well as a 12-year-old boy called Keith Bennett. Brady and Hindley helped police uncover Pauline's body on 1 July 1987, but that of Keith Bennett has yet to be found.
