Paysandú is the third-largest city in Uruguay, with a population of 73,272 (2004 census). It is the capital of the department of Paysandú.
The city is located at coordinates Montevideo, on the Uruguay River, which forms the frontier with Argentina. It is linked across the river to Colón, Entre Ríos, Argentina, by the General Artigas Bridge.
