[edit] Overview
Penfield High School is located in a residential suburb of Rochester, NY, and offers a comprehensive curriculum for students in grades 9-12. In addition to traditional core subjects, students can choose from a wide variety of Advanced Placement offerings for college credit, such as AP English Language and Composition, taught by the distinguished teacher Mr. Hardy, and AP American Studies, which combines APs for both English and History classes. Also offered are U.S. History and Government, American Government, biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, calculus, English, French, Spanish, mathematics and statistics. Penfield has numerous electives in arts, music, engineering, business and more. The foreign language department includes Spanish, French, German, and Latin, which is likely to be discontinued soon. Vocational and alternative education experiences are also made available to students. A highly skilled staff works to create a warm and welcoming environment for all students and actively encourages the involvement of parents in their children's education.

[edit] Debated Items
The most recent topic of dispute is the healthy food policy. Restrictions have been put into place with regards to the items that can be purchased in the cafeteria, commons, and vending machines. These require that all of the food being sold is relatively healthy. Because of this policy, the butter from the bagel toasting stations was temporarily removed, but reinstated due to a lack of student willingness to consume the butterless bagels.
The main question coming from teachers is, if Penfield holds this unhealthy food restriction policy, why do doughnuts and pizza still make thier way into the class prizes for fundraisers?
Of course, the policies described above and further defined at the following link [1] are doing much good for the Penfield community. There are a variety of healthy options, and candy is no longer being sold in the vending machines. Baked chips are being sold in the lunch lines instead of fried ones, and a Vitamin water vending machine has beed set up, and is widely popular among students.
[edit] Notoriety
It can be said that Penfield is most widely known for its large number of bomb threats. Multiple arrests were made, not only within the high school, but in th emiddle school as well. As of 2007, there have been no incidences of bomb threats.
