Talk:Pennyweight

Is "outlawed" a little strong? Was it really "outlawed," or did it just lose its official status? HistoryBA 00:15, 19 November 2005 (UTC)

Isn't the abbreviation "pwt"? -Hoekenheef
This unit of measure isn't really obsolete. It is commonly used in the jewelry industry. I work for a large jewelry manufacturer that manufactures and sells jewelry and jewelry components as well as raw metals. The unit of measure that we use to weight the items that are sold by weight is pennyweight, which we abbreviate as DWT. Gram is probably more commonly used in retail establishments when communicating with consumers, but DWT is alive and well in the jewelry manufacturing industry, which tends to adhere to "old school" practices!
