Talk:Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The term PEG seems to get missused a lot (not just on wikipedia) to refer to any G-tube. PEG properly refers to a procedure to place the tube, but not the tube itself. A G-tube placed with an open procedure may be functionaly equivilant to one placed percutaneously. Clearly refering to a tube so placed as a "PEG" is incorrect, yet one often hears this. I tried to adjust the article to reflect this distinction. I also emphasised the fact that a gastrostomy involves the stomach. Osmodiar 10:22, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I haven't found any mention of a RIG (Radiologically Inserted Gastrostomy) on Wikipedia so I thought I'd just mention it here for anyone who knows more about it than me to pick up on.
