This article on elections in the Philippines give information on election and election results in the Philippines.

Local elections for a new set of local and municipal officials were held on January 18, 1988 under the new Constitution of the Philippines which was ratified in 1987.

[edit] Background

During the 1988 elections, local positions such as governor, vice governor and mayor were fought against traditional politicians (trapos or tradpol)who tried their many ways win the people's trust by bribery, election rigging, violence and assasinating their political opponents. Because of the National Movement for Free Elections (NAMFREL) this never occurred. Majority who won were pro-administration and the minority were Marcos loyalists who were a problem during the Aquino administration.
