Talk:Piazza del Popolo
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There are two images at Italian Wikipedia that would be good here, if I were handier at doing the move: if you'll just move 'em, I'll provide formatting and captions. --Wetman 12:02, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Origin of 'Popolo'
I have heard that the name derives from popolus, the Italian for 'hamlet', which is what stood here among fields in the Middle Ages and became the garthering point for people entering Rome at the end of the Via Flaminia. Can this be confirmed - it is quite different from the origin of the name given in the article.
[edit] Obelisk
I rather think it's worth mentioning that the obelisk in Piazza del Popolo is under renovation. I was in Rome just recently and it was covered by a tarp... Here's a pic: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v306/Thrashmeister/vacation2006229.jpg
I guess I'll add it for now and anyone can make changes if they need to. ø,¸¸,ThRaShMeIsTeR,¸¸,ø 14:00, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
