Pinchgut Opera
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pinchgut Opera was set up in Sydney, Australia in 2002. Productions so far have been Georg Friedrich Handel's Semele (2002), Henry Purcell's The Fairy Queen (2003) and Claudio Monteverdi's L'Orfeo (2004). In 2005, the company produced Jean-Philippe Rameau's Dardanus. In 2006 it will produce Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Idomeneo. All productions have been recorded by ABC Classics and are or will be available on CD.
The aim of the company has been to produce operas that are not frequently done, but deserve to be better known. Productions have been in the 1200 seat City Recital Hall in Sydney which allows the audience to be closer to and more involved in the show than in a conventional opera house.
