Planetia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Planetia is a so-called BBMORPG (Browser Based Mass-Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game), which takes place in the future, in space. Players have the choice of four different races in your quest to become the most powerful player in the universe. These races have different qualities and specialities.
The races are:
- Odonata, a race which depends on their speed, and stealth.
- UEDF, a conventional, human race.
- Tirynus, a race which stuns hostile ships with electromagnetic pulses.
- Syitorian, a race which uses special technologies to steal the fleet of an other player.
Odonata is the most popular race, because of their extreme speeds and high powered weapons. The drawback is that their armour is about as strong as the average piece of paper. Experienced players can however compensate that by using a strong fleet combination.
UEDF is considered by many to be the best race for beginners. An all-round good going race, which is easy to play. They draw their power from their strong armour, and heavy guns. This makes them rather slow and sluggish.
Tirynus have special weapons firing electromagnetic pulses, which paralyze the opponents ships. They have quick firing weapons, and good armour. Due to their usage of EMP, they do not kill targeted ships. Due to there being no chance of losses, people are more likely to defend against or attack this race.
Syitorians are considered by many to be the most difficult race to play. It (usually) takes a very experienced player to make good fleet combinations, especially since you're working with ships of all the races. The actual Syitorian ships have the ability to manipulate the ships of their enemy, and kill only the crew. This way, they can take control of the ship. A Syitorian steal ship can steal up to as much as 118% of its own value before dying, although this number varies widely in practice.

[edit] Rounds
The game of Planetia is based in rounds. A round is a certain time span in which the game runs, an example would be from 1st of January to the 1st of March. After a round has ended, everything is erased. There will then follow a fairly brief period (usually one or two weeks) in which there is no game, nor signup period. This period is for the convenience of the staff, so they can make arrangements for the next round.
The most recent round is Round 15 which started on 24th April 2006. The previous two rounds have been won by the alliance "Ðragons", who are largely considered to be an unstoppable force. However, like all winning alliances, they are not without their critics, having come under fire in the past for excess size and allegations of cheating.
A round itself is divided in ticks. One tick stands for a certain period of time passed. Usually either 30 minutes or 1 hour, depending on what the administration thinks is a good choice for the round. If the tick speed is 30 minutes, the tick will occur at xx:30 and xx:00 (this could be 12:30 and 1:00, to give an example). Ticks are used to generate resources, and complete constructions or research. They will then be "used" automatically. Players are responsible for initiating the Research, Construction, or the Orbitals (which generate resources), producing ships or SDS (Sector defence Systems), and sending ships out to attack or defend other players.
[edit] Game Setup
Planetia works with coordinates, such as 1:2:3. The first one is the cluster number, the second the galaxy number, and the third is the number of the planet inside that galaxy. So 1:2:3 would be Planet #3, in the 2nd Galaxy of Cluster #1. Planets are housed in a Galaxy; a group of planets, usually between 5 and 10 maximum (this however varies each round). There are two types of galaxies, namely Random (meaning that galaxy-mates (the people within the galaxy) are determined randomly), or Private (meaning that the galaxy's creator has a password which must be given to and used by others in order for them to join the galaxy).
People within the same galaxy or cluster have a lower ETA when launching fleets between each other. This means that when someone is under attack, people in the same galaxy or cluster require less warning in order to send defensive fleets. Fleet travel between planets within the same galaxy is shorter than travel between planets of the same cluster, with fleets travelling outside of the cluster having the longest ETA.
