Plungington
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Plungington is a district of Preston, Lancashire, UK, to the west of the city centre. It is in an area now largely occupied by students attending the University of Central Lancashire. Historically, it was an area of working class terraced housing dating from the late 1880s, most of which have been demolished. The origin of the name might derive from the undulating nature of the area, or, it could be eponymous as many of the nearby streets are names of persons.
The main road running through it (Plungington Road), which crosses the main Preston-Blackpool road (A5085), has an array of business premises, among them being:
- bars (Plungington Tavern / Staceys Sports Bar, etc.)
- a branch of (Barclays Bank)
- restaurants

- bookmaker
- take-aways
- furniture stores
- hardware stores
