From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Pavilions, located in the centre of Plymouth is South West England's leading entertainment and sports complex. As well as a swimming pool, it also boasts an ice rink, several restaurants and an events arena. The multi-functional arena is available for corporate hire and also plays host to shows and concerts, including Green Day in 2005, Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs, Sugababes, Jack Johnson and Lostprophets in 2006 and with My Chemical Romance, Trivium and Bloc Party set to perform in March and April, respectively. The standing capacity for concerts is around 4,000.
Every weekend the arena is host to British Basketball League matches, usually with sell-out crowds of up to 1,500 coming to support the Kularoos Plymouth Raiders.
The Pavilions is built on the site of the former Millbay railway station. The granite pillars which can be seen outside the main entrance were once the gate posts to the station.
