Plymouth Township is a charter township of Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 27,798 at the 2000 census. The city of Plymouth is located within the township.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 41.3 km² (16.0 mi²). 41.2 km² (15.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it (0.25%) is water.

Plymouth Township is served by the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools. P-CCS includes most of Canton & Plymouth Townships, and portions of Salem, Superior, and Northville Townships.

As of the census² of 2000, there were 27,798 people, 10,757 households, and 7,680 families residing in the township. The population density was 674.2/km² (1,746.3/mi²). There were 11,043 housing units at an average density of 267.8/km² (693.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the township was 92.38% White, 2.96% African American, 0.27% Native American, 2.73% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.40% from other races, and 1.25% from two or more races. 1.64% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 10,757 households out of which 30.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.1% were married couples living together, 6.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.6% were non-families. 24.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 3.01.
In the township the population was spread out with 22.6% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 100.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.6 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $74,738, and the median income for a family was $90,243. Males had a median income of $64,583 versus $36,182 for females. The per capita income for the township was $37,081. About 0.9% of families and 1.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 1.4% of those under age 18 and 1.8% of those age 65 or over.

Plymouth Township is home to the Ontario Hockey League's Plymouth Whalers, one of three American teams in the OHL and one of two in Michigan. The Whalers play in Compuware Sports Arena at 14900 Beck Rd.
