Point (ice hockey)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Point in ice hockey has three meanings:
- When it is given to individual hockey players, it refers to either a goal or assist a player earns during a game. The total number of goals plus assists equals total points.
- When it is given to a team, it is usually given as two points for a win and none for a loss. In the National Hockey League, when a game advances to overtime, the losing team earns one point as well.
- A term meaning a shot taken from the blue line, or a pass to the defense at the blue line in the offensive zone (usually a slap-shot is used to take the shot).
