Polystyrene cement

Polystyrene cement is an adhesive used for joining polystyrene components. The cement contains a solvent that melts the surface of the plastic, allowing the two parts to fuse together. As the solvent evaporates the strength returns to the polystyrene, the components having been 'welded' together.

Polystyrene cement is available as both gel (tube) and liquid (bottle), the latter having a small applicator brush incorporated in the cap. Gel cement is simpler to use, but can leave 'stringy' mess if the part needs repositioning. Liquid cement gives better results with practice: the parts can be held together and the glue drawn along the join by capillary action.
