[edit] Indians?
In a decree, dated 18 April 1591, he ordered reparations to be made to the Indians of the Philippines by their conquerors — wherever it was possible — and commanded under pain of excommunication that all Indian slaves in the islands should be set free.
Could someone rewrite this to clarify? What were Indians doing in the Philippines, or is "Indians" being used in this sense as "indigenous peoples"? The only link to give context is that to Philippines, and I don't think it's reasonable to make people dig through the entire Philippines article to find out what's going on - I know I'm not going to. -- 16:45, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
