Portland Christian School, based in Louisville, Kentucky, is a private Christian school affiliated with the premillennial churches of Christ. Founded if 1924 in the rear of the Portland Avenue Church of Christ, today over three hundred students attend four campuses in Louisville and surrounding counties. The school claims it is "committed to honoring our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the creator of all things, with a learning environment that is based on biblical principles and is intellectually stimulating. Our desire is to work cooperatively with the student's home and church, 'so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.' II Tim. 3:17 (NIV)".
The college-level division of PCS is the School of Biblical Studies which is accredited to award associates degrees.

[edit] Tuition
Portland Christian School was started with a missionary emphasis and was operated as a tuition-free institution until 1986. That mission continues today with more than one-third of the cost of educating students coming from gifts given by churches and individuals interested in supporting Christian education. PCS is unique in the Louisville area in that it does not charge a set tuition. The tuition is set based on the financial situation of the individual family, determined by an independent 3rd party.
[edit] Accreditation
Portland Christian was first accredited by the Kentucky Board of Education in 1931, and is presently accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International, which is recognized by the state of Kentucky.
