Portobello Road Market

Portobello Road Market is a street market in Portobello Road, in the Notting Hill area of West London, in England. The world-famous part of the market sells antiques and draws many tourists. The main market day for antiques is Saturday. However, there are also many fruit and vegetable stalls in the market, which trade throughout the week and tend to be further north than the antiques. The market began as a fresh-food market in the nineteenth century: antiques dealers arrived in the 1960s.

The market section of Portobello road runs in a direction generally between the north-northwest and the south-south-east. The northern terminus is at Chesterton Road; the southern end is at a road called Ladbroke Gardens, to the west, and Westbourne Grove, to the east. The market area is about 3,080 feet (0.58 miles or 0.94 kilometres) long.
About one third of the way from its north end, the market runs beneath adjacent bridges of the A40 road and the Hammersmith & City line of the London Underground (Tube).
These are the four nearest Tube stations, with distances measured as the crow flies to the market's termini:
- Ladbroke Grove, which lies west of the market, is about 0.25 mile (0.4 kilometre) from the north end.
- Westbourne Park, which is east of the market, is about 0.35 mile (0.56 kilometre) from the north end.
- Notting Hill Gate is about 0.4 mile (0.7 kilometre) south-east of the south end.
- Holland Park is about 0.4 mile (0.7 kilometre) south-south-west of the south end.

Cat Stevens wrote a song about the Portobello Road Market.
A key scene in the 1971 Disney movie Bedknobs and Broomsticks, starring Angela Lansbury, occurs at the Portobello Road Market. The scene opens with a song entitled "Portobello Road".
Portobello Road market also features heavily in the Working Title film Notting Hill.
Dire Straits wrote a song called "Portobello Belle" for their Communiqué album.
