[edit] Counting your edits
(Noticing your message on User talk:Tim!) If you want to find out how many edits you have, there are various edit counters available; see Wikipedia:WikiProject edit counters. (Note that many of these have stopped working recently; User:Interiot/Tool2 seems to be the most used at the moment, and (shameless plug for my own product) I have also written my own counter: User:ais523/editcount. I'll be happy to help you sort out any problems you have using them! --ais523 11:55, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Jan Burke
Nice work on the Jan Burke article. I'd added a redlink for her on the Long Beach, California page, knowing that she had a writing column in the local newspaper, the Long Beach Press-Telegram for several years, and I kept saying that when I found the time to reserach it, I needed to add an article for her. I don't know if it is too late for the Did you know feature on the main page, but the Clinton reference would be a good 'hook' for DYN. BlankVerse 09:39, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
- On the Record with Jan Burke
- "What Jan Burke has to say about:
-
- Having Bill Clinton mention Goodnight Irene in his first White House interview:
- My husband called me over at my friend's house and told me that our answering machine was jam-packed with messages saying that Clinton held up my book on 48 Hours with Dan Rather. I thought it was a prank.
- From a Google search], that appears to be the ONLY reference on the internet.
- As for the book column, it was just once a week, and only for a 2-3 years, as far as I remember. I don't know if it is worth mentioning. Neither she nor her webmaster thought it was noteworthy. BlankVerse 07:52, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Shashi Tharoor
Thank you for cleaning up the article, I was thinking of moving them to Wikiquote but they are better off not on the page. Do you have an opinion on the controversy to include information on the SSB controversy? Thanks. Ekantik 04:52, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] reply!
Hi - thanks for your message. The Manglorean userbox looks cool - the reason for substituting was that WP:AMT suggested that templates should not be included within other templates where possible. under the previous format, {{User Mangalore}} contained the {{userbox}} template - by substituting the latter this issue is no longer prevailent. With regards to the photos in the article you mention, I'm afraid I cannot be of help as both appear exactly the same size on my browser. I can only assume that size variations are either a browser issue, or are related to stored cache (although I have never experienced the latter).
Regards, Dean
[edit] CATBird
(I'm posting my reply to your question on the Lockheed CATBird here for your convenience as well as on the article's page.) A few weeks ago, the newspaper Mojave Desert News ran a pretty indepth story on it, it may be archived on their web page. AvWeek's 11/27 issue has a pic of it, and as testing gets underway in ernest, I'm sure most of the industry pubs will mention it. By the weekend there'll be info on my blog on it (see my user page for the link). Akradecki 13:51, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
- After a bit of an unexpected delay, my blog article and images of CATBird is now up at [1]. To avoid conflict of interest, I have not included this in the external links section of the Wikipedia article. Akradecki 06:01, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Weaver Ant
Hi Prem, I saw your weaver ant photo. Wonder if it would ok with you if I moved it from ant to Oecophylla smaragdina. The gallery on ant was drastically trimmed down by me in the last few days, since it had a little too many photos which did not add value to the text in the article. Shyamal 10:43, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, the green one is the queen. Will add more text, images give some encouragement for that. Yes I think the only species in India is O. smaragdina but will check. Shyamal 11:15, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Benjamin Miller Collection
Regarding the sentences I removed in this article. I understand that they contain important information, but they were lifted verbatim from another source, which I believe violates WP:Copyrights. Obviously, this could be fixed by restating the information without using the exact words. I would do this, but I don't acually know anything about philately (I just browsed to the article somehow), and I'd prefer that it be done by someone who actually knows the subject. If you are a stamp collector, would you mind doing it? Otherwise, I'm going to delete the sentences again with a comment asking someone who is knowledgable about the subject to re-add the relevant information. Thanks! [edit] Just a question...
Please let me know why initials of certain Indian people are preferred over their full names. I noticed you redirected M. R. Pai. Many thanks! Chesdovi 14:32, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
- Hi this is regarding your question on my page on certain persons being referred to by their initials like M. R. Pai. It is how the person was referring to himself in life. Many older people present themselves by their initials. My grandfather used to be V S Kudva, some local people here are called A V Shetty, C R Kamath. Younger people generally don't use initials in their names. Just an old convention I guess that was used in India.--PremKudvaTalk 03:46, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for your response! I think it is therefore better to change the name of relevant pages to the persons full name, after all, that is his real name and correct for use in an encyclopedia. The abbreviated form can be used in the article, as that is how he was known. When renaming a page, if someone searches under the initials, it will direct them to the same page. [edit] Request for assitance
Hello Premkudva,
I am not sure if you are Konkani or not.If you are not ,please excuse me for intruding.
Perhaps, you may be aware , or maybe not , that there is a Konkani Wikipedia on test at Wikimedia Incubator. It has been around since August 2006 , but has been lacking contributors. Till now it has been a one man effort . I myself became aware of it in February.
We have started with a few articles and need a lot of help given the various dialects and scripts in use for Konkani.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
With regards, Deepak D'Souza
Thanks for replying. I assume that since you speak Konkani at home it is your mother tongue(I know it sounds silly, but there are many Konkanis who cant speak Konakni). I guess your statement means that you have had no academic training in Konkani. Great! Neither do I! In fact I can say that when it comes to Konkani I am still a toddler.
I cannot force you, but gently urge you, if it is just the fact that you may not know written Konkani, it should not be a major obstacle.
I can understand that your work and other commitments may leave you with little time.
I have not studied Kannada but trained myself to read and write Konkani in Kannada script. Devanagri was not a problem since I am pretty fluent in Hindi and Marathi.
The major problem with Konkani is the multitude of dialects and scripts. I assume that you are a Chitrapur Saraswat Brahmin(please correct me if I am wrong). I could do with inputs on your dialect since I am not very conversant with it. I hope to include atleast 3 major dialect in the Konkani Wikipedia in three different scripts .Or maybe if you are good at the technical stuff , templates, formatting etc.
I request you to take a look at the test Wikipedia. It is a hopeless mess right now , but we hope to get it in a working condition soon. http://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wp/kok

[edit] AfD nomination of Shashi Tharoor Quotes
An editor has nominated Shashi Tharoor Quotes, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shashi Tharoor Quotes and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it.
