Prince Jean of Luxembourg was born on 15 May 1957 at Betzdorf Castle, the second son of Grand Duke Jean and Grand Duchess Josephine-Charlotte. He is the twin brother of Princess Margaretha. His godparents are Prince Felix of Luxembourg and Princess Margrethe of Denmark.
On 26 September 1986, Prince Jean renounced his right of succession to the Luxembourg throne.
[edit] Education and Youth
Prince Jean was educated in Luxembourg, Switzerland and France, where he obtained his baccalaureate. He then undertook a language course in England.
In 1977, Prince Jean began his military officer training at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, England. He was made a captain of the Luxembourg Army in 1979. He later studied at INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France.
[edit] Marriage and Family
On 27 May 1987, Prince Jean married Hélène Vestur, now a judge, in Paris. His wife and children bore the title "Count(ess) of Nassau", until raised to the style and title of ""HRH Prince(ss) of Nassau". The prince and princess are now divorced, having had four children together:
- Countess, now HRH Princess Marie-Gabrielle of Nassau (born on 8 December 1986)
- Count, now HRH Prince Constantin of Nassau (born on 22 July 1988)
- Count, now HRH Prince Wenceslas of Nassau (born on 17 November 1990)
- Count, now HRH Prince Carl-Johan of Nassau (born on 15 August 1992).
On 24 November 2004, Prince Jean's wife and children were granted the style and title "HRH Prince(ss) of Nassau". Subsequently, the prince and princess were divorced.
Prince Jean works in the water industry for Degremont, a subsidiary of Suez. It is unclear what his exact role is; his former wife and children presumably still live in Paris.
