Prince Maximilian of Saxony

Maximilian (13 April 1759 – 3 January 1838) was the fifth and youngest son of Elector Frederick Christian of Saxony and Princess Mary Antonia of Bavaria. His maternal grandparents were Charles VII, Holy Roman Emperor, and Maria Amalia of Austria. After the creation of the Kingdom of Saxony, Maximilian became a Prince of Saxony.
On 9 May 1792, Maximilian married Princess Caroline of Bourbon-Parma (1770-1804), daughter of Duke Ferdinand of Parma. After her death, he married Princess Maria Louisa of Bourbon-Parma, a niece of his first wife, on November 7, 1825.
Seven children were born from his first marriage:
- Maria Amalia (1794-1870)
- Maria Ferdinanda (1796-1865). Married Ferdinand III, Grand Duke of Tuscany.
- Frederick Augustus II, King of Saxony
- Clemens (1798-1822).
- Maria Anna (1799-1832). Married Leopold II, Grand Duke of Tuscany.
- John I, King of Saxony
- Maria Josepha (1803-1829). Married King Ferdinand VII of Spain.
Maximilian renounced his right of succession on September 1, 1830 in favour of his son Frederick Augustus.
