What is the difference between primary and secondary memory??????

Primary storage is that memory that is reserved for the use of the CPU directly. Also called “cache” memory it’s just for the CPU to put things while it’s thinking.

Secondary storage is memory that is accessible from input/output channels only. That is classic RAM and is not as exclusive as Primary Storage.

Eh... No. Primary storage is any that is directly addressable by the CPU. That usually includes microcomputer main RAM banks. It may or may not include cache depending on whether the cache is user-addressable and if you want your definition of "primary storage" to include memory that isn't user-addressable. -- uberpenguin @ 2006-04-24 01:33Z

Primary memory cannot be defined as being volatile because ROM is primary memory... PLEASE EXPAND ASAP!!!!!!!

I have been tought (that I can not spell that word) that:

Primary Memory is the memory that I/O and CPU use, these include RAM. And that:

Secondary Memory is the memory that the CPU uses to permanently store information, for example - HDD.

Here is a drawing that we did in Yr 11 (1 week ago):
