Prout's Neck, Maine
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Prouts Neck is a Peninsula in the Town of Scarborough in the State of Maine in the United States. It is surrounded on three sides by the Atlantic Ocean. Prouts Neck is famous as the late home of the landscape artist Winslow Homer.
Prouts Neck (or just "Prouts" to residents) is a mostly seasonal community. A portion of the community is gated and extremely exclusive. The peninsula is almost completely built out, meaning that existing homes sell for a significant premium. There are a number of antique "summer cottages" that have been in families for generations. These cottages are unique in that many have not changed for 50+ years, presenting an interesting time capsule view of a bygone era.
