Puerto Rican peso

The peso was a currency issued in Puerto Rico between 1812 and 1819 and again between 1889 and 1897.
The first peso was issued in banknote form only. It was subdivided into 8 reales and was equivalent to 8 Spanish reales.
The second peso was subdivided into 100 centavos and was equivalent to 5 Spanish pesetas. The first issues were in banknote form, with coins introduced in 1895. The peso was replaced by the dollar at par, following Puerto Rico's transfer to the United States of America.
