Punchinello was the American spinoff of Punch magazine.
Punchinello was previously the name of a magazine published in New York City, USA, from April through December of 1870.
All 39 issues of this magazine can be found online as page images from Cornell University's Making of America and in transcribed form at Project Gutenberg.
Punchinello is also the name of the third main boss in the Super Nintendo video game Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. He is a strange purple creature with a big mouth, long arms, and the ability to create Bob-ombs out of mid air. He has captured the third, orange piece of the Star Road and is determined to make himself famous by defeating Mario when the hero comes rushing into his mine to save a pair of mole children. However, Punchinello ends up killing himself on accident when he attempts to summon a large bob-omb that ends up falling from the ceiling right on top of him, obliterating him in a massive explosion. As fate would have it, the man who fought to make a name for himself by eliminating Mario died nameless and remains one of the most obscure bosses in Super Mario history.
