Puzzle Bobble 4 is the third sequel to Puzzle Bobble and the final appearance of the series on the Sony PlayStation. It is also the final title to be recognizably similar in presentation to the original.
Building upon the success of Puzzle Bobble 3, the game adds a pulley system which requires that two sets of bubbles, attached to either side of a rope hanging across two pulleys, be popped in such a sequence that the two sides remain approximately balanced. It also adds a story mode for single player play.
In total, the game features 640 levels. It also features a handy level editor (console versions) to create and save a level or set a succession of levels to create an unlimited amount of extra levels and stages.
The console version also has an alternative Story Mode and a hidden Tarot game to tell a player's love life.

[edit] Characters
[edit] Bub, Bob
Stated as Bubblen and Bobblen, they are the original characters which the Bubble Bobble series and Puzzle Bobble/Bust-A-Move series are based on.
The names have been spelled as Bubblun and Bobblun (with letter U's instead of E's) in previous games, and in the Bubble Bobble series.
[edit] Kurol
Kurol is a baby wearing a frog suit. He attacks with musical notes and a pillow.
[edit] Develon
Develon resembles the Super Dark Great Dragon of Bubble Memories, and also resembles Bub/Bob.
[edit] Gigant
Gigant is a huge robot that resembles a knight with a helm that has a plume of fire. When he attacks, a huge wave of fire and electricity that comes from his chest strikes the opponent.
[edit] Alkanet
A princess of ice who attacks with crystals rising from the ground.
[edit] Tam Tam
A living Totem Pole with two "worshipers" at its feet. He is usually under the ground, but rises when players get chains/combos, with glowing white eyes, and lightning.
[edit] Marino
A young merman who attacks with waves. Ironically, though he lives in the ocean, when he receives bubbles from the opponent, he appears to drown from waves.
[edit] G
An old man who forgets things. He attacks by increasing in size, looking fierce.
He is known as the famous "Bubble Hermit" in Bust-A-Move Millennium.
[edit] Bramb
An alien who appears intelligent. While saying, "Let's go!", he attacks by having an aura around him.
[edit] Kurion
A pixie of the night who works for Madam Luna.
Her name is spelled Kurion on the arcade version, but her name is spelled Cleon on the console versions. Kurion is Cleon in Japanese pronunciation. Despite this, Kurion is also called Cleon by Madam Luna in their dialogue sequence, creating some confusion.
[edit] Woolen
Woolen resembles one of the horned girls from Pop'n'Pop. She is a hidden character on at least the PlayStation and Dreamcast versions, and is unlocked when she appears in the Challenge mode after 12 or so wins. She cannot be used in Story vs. mode. (Console Only Character)
[edit] Maita/Mighta
The classic Mighta from Bubble Bobble. It is a hidden character and is unlocked when it appears in the Challenge mode. It cannot be used in Story vs. mode. (Console Only Character)
[edit] Monsta
The classic Monsta from Bubble Bobble. It is a hidden character and is unlocked when it appears in the Challenge mode. It cannot be used in Story vs. mode. (Console Only Character)
[edit] Packy
Packy is a Taito character who appears in some of Taito's games, including Puzzle Bobble 2. It has its own redemption arcade game, "Packy's Treasure Slot". It is a hidden character and is unlocked when it appears in the Challenge mode. It cannot be used in Story vs. mode.
Packy attacks by shooting laser beams out of its eyes.
[edit] Notes
- Bub and Bob appear as how they did in Puzzle Bobble 2.
- Characters are bigger than how they could have been in this game's predecessors.
