From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Quay Sailing Club is a sailing club in the pretty village of St Germans, Cornwall. The Club has been established since the early seventies. It now plays an important part in the life of the village. The club provides moorings and maintain the Quay and environs in a good state of repair.
From a very small beginning and with many hours of voluntary work the Club now has a proud reputation. The Clubhouse is probably one of the most pleasant in the area and is always favourably commented upon by visitors. The various pictures, charts and other memorabilia provide an ongoing interest. The PPSA and RNLI have had the occasional use clubhouse for their meetings and have expressed their thanks for the facilities provided. The walls of the first floor have been adorned with wall lights and donations including ship's wheels, maps, clocks, paintings and with a wrought iron surround. The bar now stocks a wider choice of drinks than ever before.
The annual gala is still a major event in the summer boating programme. It continues to support the RNLI and in 2004 made a contribution towards the refurbishment of the St Germans clock whilst Harvest Festival held in the clubhouse raised money for the Air Ambulance.
The upkeep and redecoration of the clubhouse is mainly the responsibility of the club and the committee relies on the help given by members. Volunteers continue to be needed to assist in this work.
