Queen's Quarter, Belfast
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Queen's Quarter in Belfast, is the southern-most of Belfast's Quarters and encompasses a region bounded by the Ormeau Road, Stranmillis Embankment, Stranmillis Road and the Lisburn Road. Botanic Avenue and Malone Road are the main thoroughfares through the Quarter.
It is named after Queen's University, Northern Ireland's largest university, and the Quarter is centred on The Lanyon Building, the university's most prominent building designed by architect Sir Charles Lanyon.
Many cultural events take place in this area of the city, in part because of the presence of the university, and in part because of the choice of venues. Belfast Botanic Gardens provides sufficient space for open air concerts and the university hosts an annual arts festival, the Belfast Festival at Queen's.
