Rívola
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rivola is the second least expensive wine from the Abadia Retuerta winery. The 2003 vintage was reported as being composed of 60% Tempranillo grapes and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The 2003 Rivola was also aged for 12 Months in mixed French and American oak barrels before being bottled. The twelve months in new oak barrels bring out the tannins and emphasise its light touches of vanilla.

[edit] Tasting Notes
It is suggested that Rivola be consumed at a temperature of 14ºC-16ºC. Rivola's color is usually described as black cherry red. Its aroma is roasted with hints of clove, liquorice and coffee. On the palate it has a slight vanilla taste with a smooth attack, structure and blended tannins. Many described red cherries along with that characteristic roasted taste that follows many spanish wines.
[edit] Pairings
The winery suggests that the wine paired well with Iberian cold meats, loin carpaccio with non-oily fish and free-range poultry.
[edit] Production
The grapes come from soils that are predominantly calcareous, with parts that are sandy with pebbles. This wine combines musts from various types of prolonged maceration, and also from cold pre-fermentation macerations.
